										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Jerzy Haber Institute of Catalysis and Surface Chemistry PAS invites applications for<br />
Research Assistant (post-doc) position in the <em>Interfacial Interactions in Dispersed Systems</em> group. The candidates who meet the conditions stated in the act “Ustawa o Polskiej Akademii Nauk” dated 30 April 2010 (Dz.U. 2018 poz. 1475 z póź. zm.), art 88. Ust. 4 are encouraged to apply for the position.</p>
<p>The Candidate will take part in research activities, which are a part of NCN (National Science Centre) research project SONATA BIS (No. 2020/38/E/ST8/00173), ongoing currently in the group of <em>Interfacial Interactions in Dispersed Systems</em>,</p>
<p>In particular, the Research Assistant will be responsible for:</p>
<ul>
<li>experimental and theoretical studies on adsorption proces of surfactants (including bio-surfactants) from one-component and mixed solutions at fluid and solid interfaces;</li>
<li>experimental studies of the stability of liquid films formed in two- and three-phase systems under static and dynamic conditions;</li>
<li>publications of the project results in JCR journals and presentations at scientific conferences.</li>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Jerzy Haber Institute of Catalysis and Surface Chemistry PAS invites applications for an Research assistant (post-doc) position in the Cultural Heritage Research group for the implementation of the PVCare “Preventive Conservation Strategies for Poly(vinyl chloride) Objects” project funded by the National Science Centre.</p>
<p>The Candidates who meet the conditions stated in the act “Ustawa o Polskiej Akademii Nauk” dated 30 April 2010 (Dz.U. 2018 poz. 1475 z póź. zm.), art 89. Ust. 4 for the position of Research assistant are eligible to apply for the position.</p>
<p>The Research assistant supervised by the head of the CHR group will work on the development of a comprehensive mechanical model of works of art made of poly(vinyl chloride) based on material properties determined at late stages of material degradation.</p>
<p>The Research assistant will be responsible for:</p>
<ul>
<li>determination of the mechanical properties of PVC at various stages of degradation based on a set of samples obtained in the process of natural and accelerated aging using a universal testing machine (UTM) and a dynamic mechanical analyzer (DMA);</li>
<li>development of a mechanical model of a representative object made of PVC, for the analysis of the stress / strain field and, consequently, permanent deformation and cracking based on modelling using COMSOL Multiphysics or ANSYS software;</li>
<li>defining recommendations for the exposition, transport and storage of PVC objects</li>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Recently, a paper titled <em>Synthesis and Characterization of Size- and Charge-Tunable Silver Nanoparticles for Selective Anticancer and Antibacterial treatment </em>has been published in <strong>ACS Applied Materials &amp; Interfaces</strong>, whose co-author – mgr Mariusz Borkowski, is a PhD Student at our Institute of Catalysis and Surface Chemistry PAS (group: “Interactions of dispersed systems”). The research outcomes have been published, as a result of a cooperation between the Faculty of Chemistry UJ and Małopolska Centre of Biotechnology.</p>
<p>5, 10, or perhaps 15? Of how many nanometers should nanoparticles be made, for them to exhibit antibacterial properties? On the other hand, what should be the nanoparticles’ size, in order for them to be effective in anti-cancer therapy? The paper’s authors were the first to present a method of synthesizing silver nanoparticles of controllable size, and charge, in an aqueous environment. During the research, one of the encountered challenges has been producing uniformly sized nanoparticles, which is a difficult task to be conducted in biocompatible solvents. The nanoparticles size uniformity is considered crucial since it affects the potential applications of the material. In this work, the authors demonstrated that the size, and the charge of nanoparticles, may be altered, depending on the criteria imposed by specific practical applications, while preserving their stability and activity in an aquatic environment.</p>
<p>The team led by dr hab. Janusz Dąbrowski, prof. of the Jagiellonian University, investigated the effectiveness of the newly synthesized Ag nanoparticles, and discovered a link between the nanoparticles&#8217; parameters, such as size and charge. As an outcome – there is a possibility of controlling the nanoparticles&#8217; biological activity. Scientists have shown that positively charged nanoparticles, with a size of 10 nm, eliminate 100% of E. coli, whereas, those characterized by a diameter of 40 nm, can selectively destroy breast and colon cancer cells (3D models), without significantly harming normal cells. The research conducted on in vivo models has validated the safety and effectiveness of Ag nanoparticles. Moreover, a long-term inhibition of the growth of colon tumors in mice, that were given silver nanoparticles, has been observed. This resulted in significantly prolonging the life of the tested animals, in comparison with the control groups. The proposed novel synthesis method of Ag nanoparticles may be a particularly promising way to obtain highly active, selective antibacterial, and anti-cancer drugs.</p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The Group Nano and Microscale Systems is looking for candidates with knowledge in colloidal and/or polyelectrolyte physical chemistry at an experimental and/or theoretical level. We intend to hire one or more researchers for 1 year. A PhD degree in a relevant field is required. The position will be funded by National Science Centre projects OPUS 2018/31/B/ST8/03277 (PI DSc Aneta Michna) and SONATA 2018/31/D/ST5/01866 (PI DSc Piotr Batys). <p>The assistant professor will conduct research on the processes of damage to cultural heritage objects caused by interaction with the environment. In particular, we expect the candidate to develop research activities in the following areas, among others:</p>
<ul>
<li>experimental (plasmonic resonance, laser beam scattering) and theoretical (model of the subsurface layer taking into account Brown diffusion, eddy currents, thermophoresis, etc.) investigation of the transport and deposition processes of particulate matter leading to soiling of architectural surfaces in historical buildings and museums;</li>
<li>non-invasive tracing of mechanical damage development in cultural heritage objects caused by climate instability using acoustic emission and interferometric methods</li>

<p>EUFoam 2022 is the following conference in this series. It is concerned with research and innovation concerning the structure, dynamics and applications of liquid foams and closely-related materials such as highly concentrated emulsions and cellular materials.</p>

<li>determination of the mechanical properties of PVC at various stages of degradation based on a set of samples obtained in the process of natural and accelerated aging using a universal testing machine (UTM) and a dynamic mechanical analyzer (DMA);</li>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The candidates who meet the conditions stated in the act “Ustawa o Polskiej Akademii Nauk” dated 30 April 2010 (Dz.U. 2018 poz. 1475 z póź. zm.), art 88. Ust. 5 are encouraged to apply for the position.</p>
<p>The Candidate will take part in research activities, which are a part of NCN (National Science Centre) research project SONATA BIS (No. 2020/38/E/ST8/00173), ongoing currently in the group of Interfacial Interactions in Dispersed Systems,</p>
<p>In particular, the Research Assistant will be responsible for:</p>
<ul>
<li>experimental and theoretical studies on adsorption proces of surfactants (including bio-surfactants) at fluid and solid interfaces eksperymentalne i teoretyczne badanie procesu adsorpcji surfaktantów na stałych i ciekłych ganicach faz,</li>
<li>experimental studies of the stability of liquid films formed in two- and three-phase systems under static and dynamic conditions,</li>
<li>publications of the project results in JCR journals and presentations at scientific conferences.</li>
